EMDR Therapy Training Course Overview

  • COURSE OVERVIEW

    Participants will receive a minimum of:

    • 20 hours of didactic presentation

    • 20 hours of facilitated practice

    • 10 hours consultation for on-going practice*

    *This Complete EMDR Therapy Training includes 10 EMDRIA required consultation hours following the live training.  The base cost of this consultation is included in the course registration fee (makeup consultation may not be included). After the live training, online groups will meet biweekly for a total of 4-5 group sessions.  Registered participants will be polled to determine the best consultation dates/times for each group. Please see the Course Participation Agreement for more information on follow-up consultation.

    Learning Objectives

    • Identify the definition of EMDR Therapy.
    • Apply the bilateral stimulation mechanism by which EMDR therapy is theorized to work.
    • Explain the AIP model.
    • Recognize client readiness and gauge the appropriateness of EMDR Therapy treatment.
    • Explain 3 approaches to EMDR Therapy treatment planning.
    • Identify Client resources, issues, targets, themes
    • Construct an EMDR Treatment Plan.
    • Demonstrate the eight phases of the Standard Protocol.
    • Demonstrate how to prepare clients for trauma processing.
    • Recall the 3 timeframes of the EMDR Therapy Three Prong treatment approach.
    • Practice methods for developing inner resources used for interweaves, ego strengthening and client closure.
    • Apply resourcing techniques for client stabilization and safety.
    • Identify how and when to use dual attention stimulation for effective treatment.
    • Demonstrate how to conduct an EMDR Trauma Processing session.
    • Apply techniques for creating safety for clients while doing effective trauma therapy.
    • Identify at least 3 strategies to assist with blocked processing.
    • Explain the protocol for closing incomplete sessions.
    • Identify Cognitive/Therapeutic Interweaves, including appropriate use.
    • Explain PTSD, Complex Trauma and dissociation in reference to EMDR therapy.
    • Practice EMDR Therapy from multiple perspectives. (Clinician, Client, Observer)
    • Analyze special populations discussed and modify or consider issues in AIP case formulation and application of EMDR therapy.
    • Identify the process of becoming an EMDR Certified Therapist and EMDR Approved Consultant.
    • Demonstrate EMD technique to lower current anxiety.
    • Recognize special considerations and special protocols for specific client populations and presentations.

    The cost includes 5 days of training and 10 hours of expert follow-consultation (with 40 CEs). It also includes online access to website information specifically created to educate and nurture newly trained EMDR Therapists as they apply this amazing approach with their clients.     *The Training Base Rate includes the fee for the 10 hours of required follow-up group consultation if it is completed during the regularly scheduled dates/times.   Should the trainee require consultation outside of the regularly scheduled group consultation, this consultation may be provided at an additional fee.  Many EMDR training organizations, such as the EMDR Institute and EMDR HAP, may charge additional hourly fees for follow-up consultation which must be completed alongside the Weekend 1 and Weekend 2 events.  This could be a significant investment depending on the consultants hourly consultation rate.

    **To receive discount: 1) Military must submit an active duty US military ID or a valid identification card from the Department of Veterans Affairs.  2) Students must submit documentation supporting the information on the Eligibility page 3) Non-profit employees must submit letter on agency letterhead verifying full-time employment.  Only one of this type of discount given per trainee.

  • COURSE ELIGIBILITY

    In order to meet the requirements of EMDR International Association (the professional organization of EMDR Therapy), you must meet the following prerequisites prior to registering for the training.

    Licensed Mental Health Professionals

    The following qualified Licensed Mental Health Professionals must submit a copy of their license upon registration:

    • Qualifying Mental Health Clinicians must have a Master’s or Doctoral degree in the mental health field (Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology, Psychotherapy, Psychiatry, Social Work) or related mental health discipline considered appropriate by EMDRIA
    • Qualifying Medical Doctors must have a medical specialty in Psychiatry
    • Qualifying Nurses must have a Master of Science in Nursing (or higher) with a specialization in psychiatric nursing

    Mental Health Clinicians who have a Master’s degree in one of the following fields must alsosubmit their graduate transcript to EMDRIA to determine their eligibility: Art Therapy, Christian/Pastoral Counseling, Drug/Alcohol Counseling, and Music Therapy.

    Provisionally Licensed Mental Health Professionals

    All of the degree requirements above also apply for those who are provisionally licensed and/or on a licensing track and working under the supervision of a fully licensed mental health clinician.

    Provisionally Licensed Mental Health Professionals must also submit the following documentation to determine eligibility:

    1) a copy of their own provisional license

    2) a completed Consent to Attend Training Form (click to view) from their current supervisor (which includes the supervisor’s degree information, licensure information and license number).

    Post Graduate Interns

    Post Graduate Interns who would like to take the training must submit the following documentation to determine eligibility:

    1) a copy of their graduate transcript (an official transcript is not required) submitted via email to info@emdrtrainingcenter.com  or fax to (888) 383-1747

    2) a completed Consent to Attend Training Form (click to view) from their current supervisor (which verifies that they are on a licensing track and includes the supervisor’s degree information, licensure information and license number).

    Graduate Student Interns

    Qualifying graduate students must be enrolled in a Master’s or Doctoral program in the mental health field (Counseling, Marriage Family Therapy, Psychology, Psychotherapy, Psychiatry, Psychiatric Nursing, Social Work) or related mental health discipline considered appropriate by EMDRIA.

    Students must have completed their core graduate academic coursework and must be in the practicum/internship portion of their graduate program.

    Graduate students must be on a licensing track and working under the supervision of a fully licensed mental health clinician and have the approval of their supervisor to practice EMDR Therapy with clients.

    All graduate students who would like to take the Training will need to submit all of the following documentation to determine eligibility for registering for an EMDRIA Approved EMDR Therapy Training:

    1) a copy of their graduate transcript  (documenting practicum/internship status during the required EMDR Training follow-up consultation) submitted via email to info@emdrtrainingcenter.com  or fax to (888) 383-1747

    2) a completed Consent to Attend Training Form (click to view) from their internship supervisor (which verifies that they will be using EMDR Therapy with their clients during their internship and includes the supervisor’s degree information, licensure information and license number).

    Graduate students who are enrolled in a Master’s program in one of the following fields must submit their graduate course transcript to EMDRIA to determine their eligibility: Art Therapy, Christian/Pastoral Counseling, Drug/Alcohol Counseling, and Music Therapy.

    IMPORTANT: WITHIN TWO WEEKS of your online registration you must submit documentation in support of the above EMDR Therapy Training Eligibility Requirements to EMDR Training Center via email or fax.  Failure to do so may result in forfeiture of your pending class reservation and result in cancellation fees.  The above instructions will also be provided via your Registration Confirmation email.  If you register less than three weeks prior to the start of training, you must submit ALL supporting documentation within ONE WEEK of your registration or risk forfeiture of your pending class reservation.  EMDRIA reserves the right to refuse those individuals who do not meet the required guidelines for consideration.

  • CANCELLATION & GRIEVANCE POLICY

    In a perfect world, every workshop we schedule would happen as planned and every person who registers would be able to attend.  However, we acknowledge that its not a perfect world and as such, the following policies will guide our collective expectations when things don’t go according to plan.

    Cancellation by Registrants:

    1. Cancellations by registrants must be received in writing via email to info@emdrTrainingCenter.com, from the email address used during registration. Only the original registrant may request a cancellation.
    2. The “deadline” is 30 days prior to the first day of the training.
    3. There is a $300 non-refundable deposit.   Registrants that cancel before the “deadline” will be a given a refund of their payment minus the $300 deposit to their original payment method.
    4. Registrants that cancel on or after the “deadline” will not be given a refund but will receive a $300 credit toward a potential future Training.
    5. Refunds will be provided by the original means paid. If you paid by credit card, the refund will be given on that original credit card. If you paid by check, the refund will be by check, please include your current mailing address in your refund request.
    6. If you do not qualify for this course (see Eligibility) your registration will be canceled and your tuition refunded (MINUS the non-refundable deposit).  Please confirm your eligibility status BEFORE you register.
    7. The registration fee includes group consultation (10 hours), which must be completed within 6 months of the training.  Should the trainee be unable to participate in scheduled consultation, it may be possible to schedule additional individual or group consultation by an ETC Approved Consultant at an additional fee.
    8. Attendees are responsible for signing in and out of each training day and attending the training in its entirety in order to receive the  Continuing Education credits available for the training. No partial CE credit will be given. No exceptions will be made.
    9. There are no refunds for partial attendance, non-attendance or non-participation of the training.

    Changes or Cancellation of Scheduled Training by EMDR Training Center:

    ETC reserves the right to substitute faculty or cancel and reschedule a training due to low enrollment or unforeseen circumstances. In the event that the dates of a training need to be changed or the training is cancelled, registrants will be notified as soon as possible.  The registrant may have the ability to be transferred to a future training, provided it is not sold out.  Should ETC cancel an event, registrants may also request a full refund which will be provided within 10 business days.  Refunds cannot be made by ETC for lodging, airfare, or any other expenses related to the training.

    Grievance Policy:
